How to Calibrate your Lab Analytical Balance?

When calibrating your laboratory analytical balance, always make sure to use the same procedures and techniques for each balance. The calibration factors (CF) will be different for each balance, so it is important to use the same CF values when calibrating all balances. The following procedure should be followed when calibrating a laboratory analytical balance:

1. Select the type of calibration standard that will be used. 

2. Check the calibration factor for that standard on the calibration factor table supplied with the balance. 

3. Record the value of the calibration factor on a piece of paper. 

4. Load the appropriate weight into the balance pan and position it over the calibration standard. 

5. Make sure that nothing is touching any part of the calibration standard or pan except for the weight being placed in it. 

6. Turn on the balance and wait until it has stabilized at its final reading before making any other adjustments. 

7. Compare the reading on the scale with that recorded on paper to determine if any adjustment needs to be made to ensure accurate calibration
